Who will see the Vitara badge reborn?

Perhaps just Australia, perhaps some more regions...
Wouldn't be a bad idea at all.

That SUV featured "IV-4" has the look of a unibody car based vehicle as opposed to the body on frame design the Jimny has used. I think that this would be a huge mistake for Suzuki to replace the Jimny with a vehicle like that. Being a small nitch player in the auto market Suzuki's strength has been in area's where other auto makers offer little or no product. The Jimny has developed a cult like following through the years and to replace it with a car based vehicle would be a huge fail IMO.

True that. I too hope they keep to the basics and only change the sheet metal on the Jimny's successor.

On the other hand, I see nothing wrong with launching a new off-road capable mini SUV under the Vitara badge. This could be a worthy successor to our SX4s.

Using the Vitara name will lead to false expectations. The Australians have recycled names before, the SX4 sedan was marketed as a Liana.

On that page there is an ad for a Fiat van. It looks stupid, and exactly like the new stupid looking Dodge vans. Are they the same stupid thing?

This last summer, while visiting Ecuador, I saw many Suzukis, but the one that caught my attention was our (USA) former 3-door Sidekick model (aka Geo Tracker) labeled as Vitara. So, I guess, what's in a name? The US RV crowd really misses that model, because it would tow with all 4 on the ground, and still be 4wd capable for those muddy campgrounds and trails. They're also quite popular with the fast-growing American ex-patriate population there.

Been in Ecuador too...Yes, Vitaras are very popular and desired. A couple of friends living there recently bought them.
