Incredible! After all that Hissy fit fight.

Does this mean a return of Suzuki to the US and Canada with hybrids partnering with VW?

    How about diesel? YES!!!

VW bought into Suzuki to get a piece of the India car market. There was a VW version of the SX4, all squared up, I saw it on the Net. I think they alzotoo wanted a piece of Suzuki's proprietary 3D camshaft. The cam followers are spherical and the lobes are asymetric like some kind of ski slope. The followers are guided sideways by a linkage to a point on the cam that makes a purr soft idle to one that makes a full race scream by the ECM. Last I heard the whole thing, and the metallurgy of the spheres, can only work with small weak valve springs like a motorcycle. But it makes VVT look like a tractor motor.

Détente makes sense. Whatever the outcome of arbitration, each company would still have something the other wants/needs. To quote Gordon Gekko, "Showdowns are boring, nobody wins."

I don't see any reason why Suzuki needs Volkswagen, however Volkswagen may need Suzuki to learn how to make simple, reliable cars.

More info on that cam design: http://techon.nikkeibp.co.jp/english...071030/141592/

Thanks for that link, Kiwi. Apparently it is the cams that move side to side, not the followers. At least on this 2007 prototype.

Did you expect anything more from VW? Has any of their partnerships ever gone smoothly?

They built Rabbits (Golfs) here in the 1970's, in the ancient Rolls Royce factory in Pennsylvania. Had square Nader lights instead of round, or vice versa. Car people knew the difference and the ones built here were absolute junk. Now they build a severely cheaped down Jetta and I don't know what else in the defunct Saturn factory in Tennessee. Our cars are better.
