I would like to thank Maiden69 for his post on the subject which put me on the right track...

    here's what you need:
-Aerosol paint (I used Duplicolor matalic graphite)
    -Varsol
    -Rachet set
    -phillips screw driver
    -oven

    price:
    -12.99$

    time:
-about 4 hrs (including waiting for the paint to dry)

    Here's a before pic:

    STEP 1:

Take off bumper (I don't think you need to take off the whole thing...)

    STEP 2

    Remove headlights

Don't forget to take out all the bulbs

    STEP 3

    Preheat oven at 250F

Don't do like I did, take out all the necessary grills out BEFORE they get hot!!

    STEP 4

remove the 2 screws and the 3 white condensation plugs

    STEP 5

Place light in the oven for 15 mins

At that point, I realised that we REALLY need to clean our oven!!

    STEP 6

    Open the headlight

Make sure to wear gloves here, the light will be hot and the silicone is really sticky. Also, put something on the floor so the silicone doesn't get on it, if it does it comes off easy enough with Varsol.

    Step 6

Unscrew the 3 screw on the back of the housing (no pics but you can figure it out ) and take off orange reflectors

    Step 7

Tape the parts you don't want to paint

I ended up painting the part where the orange reflectors, it gave them a nice amber look

    Step 8

    -Paint

I've put 3 coats, I let it dry a couple of hours after the last coat

    Step 9

-Put them all back together...You will need to put them back in the oven at 250f for 4 mins 2-3 times to put them back together, you don't need to put new silicone if you didn't clean out the old one.

I used varsol to clean any silicone that went on or in the lights, be carefull however because if you go too hard on the chrome with varsol, it will come off

I'm going to tint my tail lights with NightShade, When i do, I'm gonna open the headlight again and put a coat of NightShade on the flasher reflectors.

Here was my reward for a job well done!!

This was my first time doing it and I must say it was WAY easier than I expected!!!

bump a thread - back from the dead!
... so it seems like our lights bake apart pretty easily. some cars can be a PITA to bake apart. (know from experience...)
ive been holding off because i know sometimes its not always smooth.
    good job

    I love this mod!!!
I think it would look cool (on some cars) to paint the chrome part of the light body color.
Of course Leaving the chrome on the reflector area where it's needed for proper light projection.
Anyone have any thoughts about that?

i had a honda fit- and the lights were body color. it was a nice touch- it was the cool thing to do to swap lights with other colors.

You can find info about something with a neat tool called search. It helps to keep threads on topic as this one is about DIY Joey Mod. From my last post you know the car belongs to the forum member Maiden69. You want info about the front lip. If you go to google.com and type in "maiden69 front lip" or "site:clubsx4.com maiden69 front lip" you can see the anwer in the first result.

Your welcome. Half your post was on topic but the other half was headed for thread derailment onto front lips. I was just trying to prevent people from having to wade through a bunch of useless posts in a thread such as this one... Epic fail due to sensitivity.
