Is that a functional hood scoop? e.g does it actually feed the intake?
or is it just extra cooling for the engine bay?

ROCK
October 10th, 2011, 04:47 PM
It is a full functional scoop. It feeds cool air to the intake and entire engine bay. This makes the side vents release hot air quicker since it is now able to exchange hot air for new cold air.

Is it possible to get the same bonnet as the sxforce made

ROCK
October 11th, 2011, 10:07 AM
That is what that hood is but the vent is added on afterwords. It would not be molded in. I will not make another mold for the SXFORCE hood. Instead I just add the vent outside which looks very clean and correct too. WE do these hoods by special order all the time.

I should add a few words here, since I am the owner.

The drivetrain is totally stock. I maintain good sensory contact with my cars, and, as such, I won't be flogging or abusing it and asking for trouble. Will the car see time sideways on dirt roads with the pedal down and the turbo singing? Definitely!

For suspension details, see Rob T.'s other thread on this topic.

The interior is pretty stock. I have pulled the rear seats, and Rob T. water jet cut a big aluminum sheet to put in the back, hinged in the front for spare tire access, much like Beast 1. I'll have a rally steering wheel in there (Thanks, Rob T.!). The good news is how cool it will be to not stare at an airbag, the bad news is no cruise, no turn signal cancelling.

RRM's front bumper facia is way cool, as you can see. There is an opening in the front large enough for an intercooler the size of Nevada, and still have space for two driving lights that Rob T. cooked up for me. The rear bumper facia is cut out in the center, so you can see the aluminum sub-frame for the rear diff. I'll post a pic of this when i have a moment.

We're painting the car black from the beltline up. The entire rear hatch will be black, as will the front and rear facias. The hood is carbon fiber, and will definitely take some pounds off the front. Do y'all know that your SX4 weighs 2900#? I can't wait to take Rob T.'s final product to the scales when I get the car back here! I also put an Odyssey PC680 under the passenger seat and yanked the stock battery before I sent the car to LA. Also, in the weight department, the car is sitting on 13# rims and the stock tires, which will have to do until I return here in Colorado and put proper snow on it.

Pecci -

(Beast 2 owner here) The roof scoop is just for good looks!

Petrex -

You should point your car south and get it to Rob T. ASAP - he and his boys do great work.

I've been driving my car around for two days now. I tried to unglue it in a corner here in the canyon under full boost in 4WD. No luck - I tried three times, each time I floored it 25' earlier before the apex. This is on the stock rubber! I wanted to do this to see "what she got" before I get 4 snows tomorrow. "She got" plenty. Rob T's suspension is quite the gift - it is real resistant to roll. On my third try in the corner, I sensed a bit of understeer setting in, but no howling tires!

Rob T. : I forgot something when we chatted tonight - great choice on the steering wheel, it's perfect!

Yea, I'm really trying. I talked to Rob and discussed some of what I want to do. The problems I'm running into is basically funds now and shipping. I want to make the most of it since I have to ship it to him from Alaska. I had about $9 grand alotted for the build but now owe more in taxes, so its down to $5 g's and still have to deal with shipping which is gonna be about $2 so...not even in the ball park of what I want to accomplish. It'll take me alittle while now to build that back up again unless I can do a good side job soon.
I really wanna be the first to have the turbo beast 3 2010 :) I'm working on it!

@robert5995 Thanks for sharing some of the information about your car. It looks great. Could you tell us how much boost you are running? Also how high of an elevation are you driving around at? The reason I ask is because if your car was tuned at RRM it may not be performing at its full potential due to the change in altitude. Thanks!

Thanks for the info. I was curious to see what elevation level Robert would be driving his car at to discover if RRM developed a tune to compensate for the loss in atmospheric pressure at high altitude. I can see why this wasn’t done (e.g. cost prohibitive to travel to car at altitude to tune and/or the limitation of staying above a certain elevation for engine safety on this tune).

It is going to be fine at altitude. The stock ECU will help in maintaining some safety etc.... It will work mostly on the timing side of the tune.
